About Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts

Trevor and Jodi Dick are the 2nd generation owners of Bolton Lake Lodge. Trevor’s father Brian Dick bought Bolton Lake Lodge in 1988 as a project for the Manitoba Government. His job was to sell the lodge as it owed money to the Province, but there was a lot of dispute over who he could sell the lodge to. In the end, Brian bought Bolton Lake and his plan was to give it a quick overhaul and sell it to whomever he wanted for a quick profit. Brian quickly learned that Bolton Lake was a special place with unlimited potential for expansion and improvements. All of Brian’s kids worked at the lodge in one capacity or another over time as it became the family business.

May 23 2012 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

March 23rd, 2012:  Tom and I attempted to drive a new quad and Polaris Ranger into Bolton but ran into nothing but bad luck. It's been the most mild winter I've ever seen and it will be a record breaking early ice out this year unless we have a really cold April. The machines are stuck out in the bush as we were picked up by ski plane after spending 2 days and a night out [...]

May 20 2012 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

May 20th, 2012:  Our first guests arrive today and it's a beautiful day!  It rained most of the day yesterday and we spent the previous day getting Aswap set up.  The new motors are on the boats, the boats are cleaned and ready with all the nets, paddles, life preservers, seats and measuring boards.  The cabin was beaten pretty badly by a bear or it could have been a bunch of bears there was so much [...]

May 14 2012 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

May 14th, 2012:  The ice is all gone from our lakes and we're almost ready to start another great season at Bolton Lake!  Our freight haul was finally finished yesterday, we had to bring in a different airplane because the one we were using had problems with his flaps and needed to leave for maintenance but I luckily happened to be in the air when our friends from Keystone Air were passing through the area.  Their [...]

May 4 2012 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

May 4th, 2012: Made it to the lodge on Wednesday with Tom and Trevor (T3) with the new airplane.  We had to fly low and through some snow showers but about 100 miles south of the lodge the skies really picked up and we landed in the sun at camp.  See the pictures below for the aerial pictures of the lodge and the ice.  I took the pictures yesterday before flying back to Winnipeg.  I haven't [...]

April 29 2012 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

April 29th, 2012: Our season is nearly upon us! I'll be heading up to the lodge in the next few days with Tom and Trevor (guide) to take our first look since October. I've been talking to friends in Island Lake and Norway House and they say that the snow is gone but the ice is still fairly solid on the lakes. There are open spots in the rivers and around shore but the main ice [...]

March 12 2012 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

March 12th, 2012:  It's warming up in Winnipeg very quickly!  By the end of this week there probably won't be any snow left in town and I might even be wearing shorts if the long range forecast is accurate.  I got out ice fishing a bit more this winter with Adam, we did well on Lake Trout and we landed a few Whitefish before the blizzard started and the fish shut down so we were happy [...]

February 8 2012 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

February 8th, 2012: It's been a while since my last update, it's amazing how we can get so busy! Over the past month I have visited St. Louis, Indianapolis, Chicago, Madison, Milwaukee and Las Vegas. We're taking a short holiday and then we'll be back to more shows in Minneapolis and Phoenix before the month is over. As busy as I've been, I still took a bit of time to ice fish with Adam (new guide [...]

October 9 2011 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

October 19th, 2011:  Tom and I headed back up north for the better part of September to check on the lodge again, do a bit of hunting and to try to make a few bucks with the float plane.  Everything at the lodge looked good and we were able to put a few more things away as well as secure a couple things as well.  We didn't spend a lot of time there because there was [...]

August 31 2011 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

August 31st, 2011:  The season has officially come to an end and we would like to thank all our guests one more time for their visits with us this year!  It was a season of ups and downs but mostly ups because the weather and fishing were great again this year!  Some difficulty with getting the tractor stuck in a swamp and a couple of guides spoiling things for the camp were all overshadowed by another [...]

August 8 2011 Bolton Lake Lodge & Outposts Update

August 8th, 2011:  It's been raining for about 12 hours now so it's given me some time to work on another update.  The weather in general has been pretty good this season, not too many days where guys didn't go out, just 3 that I can think of all season!  We also haven't had one flight delay due to weather all season, we're making up for that one season when every big change over day had [...]
