April 29th, 2008: I’ve been to the lodge a couple of times in the past few weeks and things are looking pretty good. We have a crew of 6 guys working on building a new dock at the lodge and bringing firewood to the shorelunch spots. Almost all the snow is gone around the camp and on the lake but the ice is still very thick, I’m predicting ice out on May 20th but if we get more cold weather I think it will be later then that. We have not been able to do the fuel or freight haul yet although we’ve been ready for almost a week, the charter company does not have an airplane available to us for another 10 days or so. I’ll be back at the lodge again this week to bring in more supplies for the season and to work on the runway for the freight planes so I’ll be able to test the ice a bit more. The guys say that it’s now just the full length of the auger to get through so we’ve lost a few inches of ice over the past 2 weeks.
Bookings have picked up in the past couple of weeks, people are making their last minute plans so we’ve lucky to fill in some of the holes in the schedule.
